# VCF to CSV converter

> Convert VCF contact files to CSV for Excel or Google Sheets, with every email and phone in its own column. Runs in your browser, free, no sign-up.

Choose one or more .vcf files, or paste vCard text. Every contact becomes a row with its name, emails, phones, company and address, ready for Excel or Google Sheets. It runs in your browser, so your contacts never leave your computer.

Use the tool in a browser at [/tools/vcf-to-csv](https://www.acquisity.ai/tools/vcf-to-csv). It is free and needs no sign-up.

## What goes in the CSV

- One row per contact, with these columns: First name, Last name, Full name, Email, Email 2 and so on, Phone, Phone 2 and so on, Company name, Job title, Address, Website, Birthday and Notes.
- Every email address and phone number on a card gets a column of its own, in the order the card lists them, up to 10 of each. The CSV has as many Email and Phone columns as the contact with the most needs, and a contact with more than 10 keeps the rest, separated by commas, in a More emails or More phones column.
- Company name is the first part of the card’s organization, without the department. Job title, Address and Website are the first ones on the card, and Notes keeps every note. The address is joined into one line, from the PO box and street to the country.
- When a card has no full name, we build it from the name parts. When it has only a full name, the last word becomes the last name and the words before it the first name. A one-word name becomes the first name, and a company’s card keeps its name whole.
- Birthdays are written as year, month and day (1985-04-12), or as --04-12 when the card has no year.
- Photos, logos, sounds and keys are left out.

## Files it reads

It reads vCard 2.1, 3.0 and 4.0, the versions iPhone, Android, Google Contacts and Outlook export. That includes long lines split over several, quoted-printable text, accented letters saved as UTF-8, ISO-8859-1 or Windows-1252, and several files at once.

A card that doesn’t end with END:VCARD is skipped, and so is a card with nothing to convert. The result lists each skipped card with its number, its name if it has one, and the reason, and with several files, the file it came from. A file that isn’t a vCard file is left out and named. A line inside a card that isn’t written as a vCard property, like a line with no colon, is left out and counted, and the rest of that card is kept.

## Before you import the CSV

The CSV is saved as UTF-8 with a marker Excel looks for, so accented names open correctly. A cell that starts with +, -, = or @, like the phone number +1 555 0100, starts with an apostrophe in the CSV, so a spreadsheet doesn’t run it as a formula. Remove the apostrophe if the place you import into keeps it.

To tidy the addresses before you email anyone, paste the Email column into the [email list cleaner](https://www.acquisity.ai/tools/email-list-cleaner), which removes repeats and flags likely typos.

## What it doesn’t do

It doesn’t turn a CSV back into vCards, merge contacts that appear twice or check that an email address works. It runs in your browser, and your contacts aren’t uploaded or saved.

## Questions

### How do I convert a VCF file to CSV?

Choose your .vcf file, or several, or paste the vCard text, then choose Convert to CSV. Check the preview, then choose Download CSV.

### How do I open a VCF file in Excel?

Convert it to CSV here first, then open the CSV in Excel or Google Sheets. Each contact is a row, with each email address and phone number in its own column.

### Does it work with iPhone, Android, Google Contacts and Outlook?

Yes. It reads vCard 2.1, 3.0 and 4.0, which covers the files those apps export, including names with accents and contacts with several emails and phones.

### Why does a phone number start with an apostrophe in the CSV?

A spreadsheet reads a cell that starts with +, -, = or @ as a formula, so +1-555-0100 could turn into a number. The apostrophe keeps it as text. Remove it if the place you import into keeps it.

### Are my contacts uploaded or stored?

No. Your files are read and converted in your browser, and they’re never sent to us or saved.

### How big can the file be?

A file of any size can be read, because photos don’t count: we leave them out as we read. We convert up to 10 MB of contact details, which is thousands of contacts. Past that, we convert up to the last whole contact and say so.

## Importing these contacts into a CRM?

Acquisity’s CRM imports people from a CSV, phone numbers included, and keeps each person’s details and notes in one place. [CRM](https://www.acquisity.ai/platform/crm).
