# Stripe fee calculator

> Work out Stripe’s fee and what you receive on a card payment, or what to charge to receive an exact amount. US, international and converted cards.

Enter a charge to see Stripe’s fee and what you receive, or the amount you want to receive to see what to charge. It uses Stripe’s standard US card prices.

Use the tool in a browser at [/tools/stripe-fee-calculator](https://www.acquisity.ai/tools/stripe-fee-calculator). It is free and needs no sign-up.

## How Stripe’s fee is worked out

On a US card paid online, Stripe takes 2.9% of the charge plus 30 cents. On a $100.00 charge that’s $2.90 plus $0.30, a $3.20 fee, so you receive $96.80.

Stripe works out the whole fee, then rounds it to the nearest cent, and half a cent rounds up: on a $5.00 charge the fee is $0.445, which rounds to $0.45.

## Cards from outside the US and currency conversion

A card issued outside the US adds 1.5%, and a payment converted from another currency adds 1%. They add up: a converted payment on a card from abroad costs 2.9% + 1.5% + 1% = 5.4%, plus 30 cents, so $5.70 on $100.00.

A card typed in by hand, in the Stripe Dashboard or over the phone, adds 0.5%.

## What to charge to receive an exact amount

Add the 30 cents to the amount you want, then divide by what’s left after the percent. To receive $100.00 on a US card, ($100.00 + $0.30) ÷ 97.1% ≈ $103.2956, so charge $103.30, and Stripe’s $3.30 fee leaves exactly $100.00.

Because Stripe rounds its fee to the nearest cent, that formula sometimes asks for a cent too much. To receive $29.00 it gives $30.18, but $30.17 already leaves $29.00 once the fee of $1.1749 rounds down to $1.17. The calculator finds the smallest charge that leaves your amount.

## What the calculator leaves out

It works out the fee on one card payment to a US Stripe account. It leaves out:

- Stripe accounts outside the US, which pay other rates (you can enter yours under More options);
- refunds: it doesn’t work out a refund, and Stripe keeps its fee on a refunded payment;
- disputes and chargebacks;
- Instant Payouts;
- bank debits, Buy Now Pay Later and other ways to pay;
- payments taken in person on a card reader;
- tax on Stripe’s fees, where it applies;
- Stripe’s other products, such as Billing and Invoicing, which charge their own fees on top.

## Where these rates come from

These are Stripe’s standard US prices for card payments, from Stripe’s US pricing page (stripe.com/us/pricing), checked October 31, 2026. We’ll check them again by January 31, 2027.
