# Phone number extractor

> Paste any text or choose a file to pull out every phone number, in international format with repeats removed. Copy it or download a CSV. Free, no sign-up.

Paste any text or choose a file, and get every phone number in it, written the same way and listed once. Copy the list or download it as a CSV. It runs in your browser, so your text never leaves your computer.

Use the tool in a browser at [/tools/phone-number-extractor](https://www.acquisity.ai/tools/phone-number-extractor). It is free and needs no sign-up.

## What this extractor finds

- Numbers anywhere in the text: in sentences, in email signatures, in lists and in the columns of a spreadsheet you paste or save as CSV.
- Numbers written with spaces, dots, dashes or brackets, like (212) 555-0123, 020 7946 0958 or 0412 345 678.
- International numbers that start with + or 00, like +44 20 7946 0958 or 0049 30 12345678, whatever country you set.
- Extensions written as ext. 45, x45 or #45, kept with their number.
- Each number once. (212) 555-0123 and +1 212-555-0123 count as one.

## How the numbers are written

Each number comes out in E.164, the international format that phones, CRMs and calling tools read: a plus sign, the country code, then the number with no spaces, like +12125550123. Beside it is the number as people write it in its own country, like (212) 555-0123.

Numbers written without a country code are read as numbers from the country you set, which starts as the United States. If your text is from somewhere else, pick its country and the list updates.

## What it doesn’t do

It doesn’t call, text or look up any number, so it can’t tell you who a number belongs to or whether it still works. It checks that each number has the right length and digits for its country.

It leaves out things that only look like phone numbers, such as dates, times, prices written with a dot before the cents or with a currency sign right before them, IP addresses, card numbers and codes joined to letters, like INV-2024-00123. A number written exactly like a phone number, such as a ten-digit order number, can still come out, so give the list a quick look.

In countries where people always write the leading 0, like the UK, Germany and Australia, a number written without it is left out, because it could be something else. Numbers written in words or shown in an image aren’t picked up. For email addresses, use the [email extractor](https://www.acquisity.ai/tools/email-extractor).

## Questions

### What does a phone number extractor do?

It reads a block of text, such as an email thread, a spreadsheet or a web page, and lists every phone number in it, written the same way. You get a clean list instead of copying numbers out by hand.

### Is my text uploaded or stored?

No. The extractor runs in your browser. The text you paste and the files you choose are read on your computer and never sent to us or saved.

### What format are the numbers in?

E.164: a plus sign, the country code and the number, with no spaces, such as +442079460958. The CSV also has each number as it’s written in its own country, and any extension in a column of its own.

### Why do the numbers in the CSV start with an apostrophe?

A spreadsheet reads a cell that starts with + as a formula and drops the plus sign. So every number in the CSV’s phone column starts with an apostrophe ('), which keeps it as text. To paste the numbers into another app or a CRM, use Copy, which gives them without the apostrophe.

### Which countries does it read?

Every country with a calling code. A number that starts with + or 00 is read with its own country code. For numbers written without one, pick their country; the setting starts as the United States.

### Can it extract phone numbers from a website?

Not by visiting it. Copy the text you can see on the page and paste it here. For a number that only shows as a link, right-click it, copy the link and paste that. Don’t paste the whole page source, because the code behind a page can look like phone numbers.

### Can it extract phone numbers from Excel or Google Sheets?

Yes. Copy the cells and paste them, or save the sheet as CSV and choose the file. Excel files themselves (.xlsx) can’t be read directly, so save them as CSV first.

### Does it remove duplicates?

Yes. Each number is listed once however it was written, so (212) 555-0123, 212.555.0123 and +1 212 555 0123 are one number. The same number with a different extension is listed separately.

### How much text can I paste?

Up to 10 MB of text at a time, which is well over 100,000 lines of a typical spreadsheet. If you go past that, we search the first part and tell you.

### Why is a number missing from the list?

Usually because it’s written without its country code and the country setting doesn’t match it, it’s missing a digit, or it’s split across two lines. In countries where people always write the leading 0, a number written without it is left out.

## Building a call list from these numbers?

Acquisity’s CRM imports people from a CSV, phone numbers included, and keeps each person’s details and notes in one place. [CRM](https://www.acquisity.ai/platform/crm).
