# PayPal fee calculator

> Work out PayPal’s fee and what you receive on a payment, or what to charge to receive an exact amount. Checkout, cards, goods and services, international.

Enter a payment to see PayPal’s fee and what you receive, or the amount you want to receive to see what to charge. It uses PayPal’s standard US rates for receiving payments.

Use the tool in a browser at [/tools/paypal-fee-calculator](https://www.acquisity.ai/tools/paypal-fee-calculator). It is free and needs no sign-up.

## How PayPal’s fee is worked out

PayPal takes a percent of the payment, plus a fixed fee of 49 cents on every type except goods and services, and the percent depends on how your customer pays. On a $100.00 PayPal Checkout payment that’s $3.49 plus $0.49, a $3.98 fee, so you receive $96.02.

PayPal doesn’t publish how it rounds its fee. The calculator rounds to the nearest cent, with half a cent rounding up, so when a fee lands on half a cent PayPal’s may differ by a cent. On a $150.00 goods and services payment the fee is $4.485, which the calculator rounds to $4.49.

## PayPal’s US rates by how your customer pays

PayPal’s US merchant fee page lists a rate for each way of paying. The calculator offers these four:

- PayPal Checkout, when your customer pays with their PayPal account at your checkout, 3.49% plus 49 cents;
- a standard credit or debit card payment through PayPal, 2.99% plus 49 cents;
- money sent to you for goods and services in the PayPal app or on PayPal’s website, 2.99% with no fixed fee;
- Pay Later, when your customer pays over time with PayPal, 4.99% plus 49 cents.

## Payments from outside the US

When the person paying is outside the US, PayPal adds 1.5% to the rate for how they paid, and the fixed fee doesn’t change, 49 cents for a payment you receive in US dollars and none for goods and services. A PayPal Checkout payment from abroad costs 3.49% + 1.5% = 4.99%, plus 49 cents, so $5.48 on $100.00.

When a payment needs converting from another currency, PayPal takes a spread inside the exchange rate rather than a fee on the payment, so the calculator can’t work it out from the amount and leaves it out. Enter the amount in US dollars.

## What to charge to receive an exact amount

Add any fixed fee to the amount you want, then divide by what’s left after the percent. To receive $100.00 through PayPal Checkout, ($100.00 + $0.49) ÷ 96.51% ≈ $104.1239, which rounds up to $104.13.

Because the fee is rounded to the nearest cent, that formula sometimes asks for a cent too much, and $104.12 already leaves $100.00 once the fee of $4.1238 rounds down to $4.12. The calculator finds the smallest payment that leaves your amount. If you also take cards through Stripe, the [Stripe fee calculator](https://www.acquisity.ai/tools/stripe-fee-calculator) does the same for Stripe’s fee.

Once you know what to charge, the [invoice due date calculator](https://www.acquisity.ai/tools/invoice-due-date-calculator) works out when the invoice is due on net 30 or other terms.

## What the calculator leaves out

It works out the fee on one payment to a US PayPal account. It leaves out:

- PayPal accounts outside the US, which pay other rates (you can enter yours under More options);
- currency conversion, which PayPal takes as a spread in the exchange rate;
- refunds, disputes and chargebacks;
- Venmo, QR codes and payments taken in person;
- payment links;
- Advanced and Expanded Checkout card payments, micropayments and donations, which have rates of their own (you can enter yours under More options);
- crypto, bank payments, withdrawals and PayPal’s other fees.

## Where these rates come from

These are PayPal’s standard US rates for receiving payments, from PayPal’s US merchant fee page (www.paypal.com/us/business/paypal-business-fees), checked November 2, 2026. We’ll check them again by February 2, 2027.

## Questions

### How much does PayPal charge per transaction?

On PayPal’s standard US rates, 3.49% plus 49 cents for PayPal Checkout, 2.99% plus 49 cents for a credit or debit card, 2.99% with no fixed fee for goods and services, and 4.99% plus 49 cents for Pay Later. A payment from outside the US adds 1.5%.

### How do I calculate PayPal fees?

Multiply the payment by the rate for how it was paid, add the fixed fee, and round to the nearest cent. On a $100.00 PayPal Checkout payment that’s $3.98, so you receive $96.02.

### What is PayPal’s fee for goods and services?

2.99% of the payment with no fixed fee, when someone sends you money for goods and services in the PayPal app or on PayPal’s website. On $100.00 that’s $2.99, so you receive $97.01. From outside the US it’s 4.49%.

### How do I receive a set amount after PayPal’s fee?

For PayPal Checkout, add 49 cents to the amount, divide by 96.51% and round up to the cent, then try a cent less, since rounding the fee sometimes lets it through. To receive $100.00, charge $104.12.

### Who pays the PayPal fee, the buyer or the seller?

The seller. PayPal takes its fee from the payment you receive, so your customer pays your price and you receive it less the fee. PayPal charges the buyer no fee unless it converts currency, though the terms of a Pay Later plan may add interest.

### Can I use it with my own rate?

Yes. Under More options you can enter any percent and fixed fee, such as custom PayPal pricing or another country’s rates, and it replaces PayPal’s US rates.

### Are these PayPal’s current fees?

They’re PayPal’s standard US rates as of November 2, 2026. PayPal can change them, so check PayPal’s US merchant fee page before you set your prices. Custom pricing and accounts in other countries pay different rates.

### Is this calculator made by PayPal?

No. This calculator isn’t made by or affiliated with PayPal. It uses the standard US rates on PayPal’s US merchant fee page.
