# LinkedIn text formatter

> Format a LinkedIn post with bold, italic and bullet lists, see where LinkedIn cuts it off, and copy it styled or as plain text. Free, no sign-up.

Write your post and style a few words. See where LinkedIn adds “…more”, then copy it styled or as plain text.

Use the tool in a browser at [/tools/linkedin-text-formatter](https://www.acquisity.ai/tools/linkedin-text-formatter). It is free and needs no sign-up.

## How bold and italic work on LinkedIn

A LinkedIn post is plain text, with no bold or italic button. This tool swaps each letter you style for a look-alike letter from a set of Unicode math symbols, so the style survives copy and paste. It uses the sans-serif set, which sits closest to LinkedIn’s own font.

Accented letters keep their accents, numbers can be bold, and emoji and other alphabets stay as they are. A few letters, such as ß, ø and ł, have no styled version, so they stay plain inside a styled word.

## Use styled text sparingly

- Most screen readers skip styled letters or read them out one at a time, so a styled sentence can vanish for someone who listens to LinkedIn.
- LinkedIn search may not find a styled word, so keep names, skills and keywords plain.
- Style a word or two for emphasis, not whole lines. When in doubt, copy the plain text.

## Where LinkedIn folds your post

LinkedIn shows the start of a post and hides the rest behind “…more”. It doesn’t publish where the cut falls. People who have measured it put it at about 210 characters on a computer and 140 on a phone, or three lines, whichever comes first, and a blank line counts as a line. The preview here folds your post the same way, so you can see what earns the click. A cold email gets the same quick glance, and the [cold email template generator](https://www.acquisity.ai/tools/cold-email-template-generator) writes a short one that gets to the point.

## The 3,000 character limit

A post can have up to 3,000 characters. Most character counters count each styled letter as two, and so does the counter here. That’s the strict count: LinkedIn hasn’t said how its own counter treats styled letters, so counting this way makes you unlikely to go over.

## Questions

### How do I bold text on LinkedIn?

LinkedIn has no bold button for posts. Write the post here, select the words, and press Bold or Ctrl+B (⌘B on a Mac). Then copy the post and paste it into LinkedIn.

### Can screen readers read bold or italic text on LinkedIn?

Mostly not. In recorded tests on default settings, most screen readers skipped the styled letters or read them out one letter at a time. Keep the words that carry your message plain, and use the plain text copy when it matters.

### Will styled text make my post harder to find?

It can. LinkedIn search may not match a styled word to the same plain word, so keep names, skills and hashtags plain.

### Can I use bold text in my LinkedIn headline?

Not reliably. People report that LinkedIn now refuses to save a headline with styled letters in it. Posts are where it works.

### How long can a LinkedIn post be?

Up to 3,000 characters, and only the first two or three lines show before “…more”. Put the line that matters most first.

## Writing for buyers on LinkedIn?

On Growth and Pro, Acquisity’s Cold Email Agent can find people who recently posted on LinkedIn, changed jobs or got promoted, then write your campaign and test which versions earn interest. [Cold Email Agent](https://www.acquisity.ai/agents/cold-email).
