# Email spam checker

> Free email spam checker and spam word checker: paste your message for a grade from A to F, with each trigger word marked and explained. No sign-up.

Paste a cold email to check its spam words and get a grade from A to F, with every word and habit that cost points marked and explained. Links, merge fields and length get separate notes that don’t change the grade. Words matter less than how your domain is set up, so check that too.

Use the tool in a browser at [/tools/email-spam-checker](https://www.acquisity.ai/tools/email-spam-checker). It is free and needs no sign-up.

## What spam filters really look at

Gmail and Outlook decide where an email lands mostly by who sent it. They check that your domain proves the email is yours (SPF, DKIM and DMARC), look at the history of your domain and inbox, and watch how people respond: whether they open it, reply, or mark it as spam.

The words in your email count too, but less. A clean result here means your words won’t hold you back. It can’t promise the inbox, and no checker can. If your domain isn’t set up yet, fix that first: the [SPF checker](https://www.acquisity.ai/tools/spf-checker) shows what’s missing.

## What this checker looks at

- Phrases spam often uses, in eleven groups such as pressure to act now, money claims, big promises, clickbait, and scam and phishing lines.
- Whole words in capitals, runs of exclamation marks or symbols, long dashes, and a subject that starts with Re: or Fwd:.
- Each one takes points off a score of 100, which becomes a grade from A to F. It’s the same scoring Acquisity’s Cold Email Agent uses when you preview a campaign email, and it reads plain text the way the preview does, except that merge tags like {{first_name}} get a sample name instead of each lead’s own. Pasted HTML is scored as typed, and so is text in angle brackets, which the preview reads as HTML. For spintax, it scores the version the preview shows first.
- Separate notes that don’t change the grade: more than one link, link shorteners, links to an IP address, merge fields to fill in (like {{first_name}} or [Name]), the version of your spintax we scored, a subject that’s missing or too long, and an email that’s too long or mostly a link.
- English only: the phrase lists are in English, so an email in another language can get a good grade without being any safer.

## How to keep a cold email out of spam

- Set up SPF, DKIM and DMARC on the domain you send from, before you send anything.
- Send cold email from a separate domain, so your main domain’s reputation stays safe.
- Start slowly with a new inbox: a few emails a day, not hundreds.
- Write to one person: a few short sentences and one simple question.
- Use one link at most, or none in the first email, and no attachments.
- Send only to addresses you’ve checked, so few emails bounce.

## Questions

### What does an email spam checker do?

It reads your subject line and email the way a cautious filter would, takes points off for what spam often has (pressure, money claims, capitals, strings of exclamation marks) and gives you a grade from A to F. It explains each one, so you can decide what to change.

### Will this get my email into the inbox?

No checker can promise that. Inbox providers mostly judge the sender: whether the domain is set up with SPF, DKIM and DMARC, its sending history, and how people respond. Clean words help, but a well set up domain matters more.

### What are spam trigger words?

Words and phrases spam uses so often that filters and readers grow wary of them, such as “act now”, “risk-free” and “100% free”. One on its own rarely sends an email to spam. Several together, in an email to a stranger, make it look like an ad or a scam.

### Is “free” a spam word?

Only a little. On its own it costs a couple of points, like other everyday sales words such as “now” and “price”, and several together add up. Phrases like “100% free” and “free gift” cost far more.

### How many links should a cold email have?

One at most, and none in the first email is often better. Write the link out in full, on your own website. Shortened links hide where they go, so filters distrust them.

### Why are my emails still going to spam?

Usually because of the domain or the sending, not the words: a missing or broken SPF, DKIM or DMARC record, a new domain sending too much too soon, or many bounces and spam reports. Check your domain with the [email deliverability checker](https://www.acquisity.ai/tools/email-deliverability-checker) first.

### Is my email stored or sent anywhere?

No. The check runs in your browser. Your subject line and email aren’t sent to us or saved.
