Answer a few plain questions. We build your DMARC record and tell you exactly where to paste it.

Use the tool in a browser at [/tools/dmarc-generator](https://www.acquisity.ai/tools/dmarc-generator). It is free and needs no sign-up.

## What DMARC does

DMARC tells email servers what to do when an email claims to be from your domain but fails SPF and DKIM: deliver it anyway, send it to spam, or reject it. It also asks them to send you daily reports, so you can see every service that sends as you.

Since 2024, Gmail and Yahoo require a DMARC record from anyone who sends 5,000 or more emails a day to their users. Even below that, a domain without DMARC looks less trustworthy.

## Start gently, then tighten

- Start with p=none. Nothing is blocked; you just get reports.
- Read the reports for two to four weeks and make sure every service you use passes SPF or DKIM.
- Move to p=quarantine, which sends fakes to spam.
- When the reports stay clean, move to p=reject, which blocks fakes outright.

## Questions

### What is a good DMARC record to start with?

v=DMARC1; p=none; rua=mailto:you@yourdomain.com. It blocks nothing and sends reports to an inbox you read, so you can see who sends as your domain before you tighten the policy.

### What’s the difference between none, quarantine and reject?

none delivers failing email as normal and only reports it. quarantine asks servers to put it in spam. reject asks them to refuse it. Each step protects you more but needs every real sender set up correctly first.

### Do I need SPF and DKIM before DMARC?

You can publish DMARC with p=none at any time. Before you move to quarantine or reject, each service that sends for you should pass SPF or DKIM with your domain, or its email will be filtered. If you don’t have SPF yet, the [SPF record generator](https://www.acquisity.ai/tools/spf-record-generator) builds it.

### Where do DMARC reports go?

To the address in rua=. They’re XML files, one a day from each organization that receives your email, so a busy domain gets many. A separate mailbox, or a DMARC reporting service, keeps them out of your main inbox. A report address on another domain only works if that domain agrees to receive them; reporting services set this up for you.

## Sending cold email? Keep it off your main domain.

Acquisity sends cold email from separate domains, with SPF, DKIM and DMARC set up for you. [Cold Email Agent](https://www.acquisity.ai/agents/cold-email).
